Today marks Princess Beatrice's 30th birthday.

The daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson is currently eighth in line to the throne and has grown up in the royal limelight, along with her soon-to-be-wed sibling, Princess Eugenie.

Although both sisters have their own careers, the princess's are often seen attending annual events alongside the rest of the royal family, including Trooping Of The Colour, Royal Ascot and the traditional Christmas Day service.

Sightings of Beatrice over the years have given us a glimpse into her personal style evolution; her signature royal wardrobe often featuring a chic ensemble finished off with a head-turning piece of headgear.

There's no denying that over the years Beatrice has become known for wearing hats that do all the talking. So, to celebrate her 30th birthday we thought we'd take a look at five of her most memorable millinery moments.

1. May 19, 2018: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding

After wearing a headline-hitting hat to the previous royal wedding (more on that in a moment), for the nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May this year, Beatrice opted for a subtler approach - and it paid off.

The modern and understated hat hit all the right accessory notes. The intricately woven Stephen Jones design perfectly matched her teal dress, creating a princess-perfect wedding guest look.

2. April 29, 2011: Prince William and Kate Middleton's Royal Wedding

Now for the hat you all remember.

To Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal wedding in 2011 Beatrice wore a beige bow-detailed design by Philip Treacy. However, the creative hat didn't get the response she was expecting.

Coined the towering 'Pretzel' hat, the unusual piece of headgear quickly became one of the focal points of the historic day. Twitter erupted with memes and Treacy himself said of the design: "There was a moment where I thought I would find myself with my head on a spike outside the Tower of London."

But, there was a silver lining to the backlash, the bold design was eventually auctioned off for charity and, thanks to the added publicity, raised over £80K.

3. June 19, 2014: Royal Ascot

Beatrice usually attends Royal Ascot several times in the season and it's become a stage for her most statement hats.

One of her most memorable pieces of racing day millinery was back in 2014, when she wore an eye-catching tangerine fascinator by Sarah Cant that looked like it was adorned with a piece of orange peel.

4. May 17, 2008, Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly's Wedding

One of the princess's most elaborate designs to date has to be the masterpiece she wore to the wedding of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly.

The head-turning piece of art was made up of multi-coloured butterflies and was once again the work of fashion-forward milliner Philip Treacy.

5. December 25, 2005: Christmas Day service

A look back to Christmas Day in 2005 proves that Beatrice has championed eccentric headgear from a young age.

Exiting St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham at the annual Christmas service, Beatrice emerged wearing a rather unmissable purple topper. A fashion statement by any feat.
