The royal family know how to keep things cordial to the public, but behind closed doors things are reportedly far from perfect particularly between Princess Anne and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
The pair have never really seen eye to eye and now it seems the past is being “dredged up” due to the hit Netflix series The Crown.
“Anne and Camilla won’t be able to pretend they don’t have a storied history for much longer,” a source told Woman’s Day.
“The past is getting dredged up again and it’s becoming seriously awkward for the whole of the royal family, who are being forced to pick sides,” the insider added. “It’s only going to get worse as the show continues and it’s especially difficult for Camilla, who has worked so hard to try and win over the public.”
Their alleged feud dates back to 1970.
At the young age of 19, Princess Anne enjoyed a brief romance with Andrew Parker Bowles, around the same time he struck up a relationship with Camilla.
According to royal biographer Penny Junor, this was a domino effect leading Camilla to Prince Charles.
“So when she was introduced to Charles and he thought she was pretty special… he thought she was a bit of alright and she thought ‘Andrew is at the moment off with Princess Anne, you know her brother, teach Andrew a lesson’. So she had a fling with Charles,” Junor wrote in her book The Duchess: The Untold Story.
Another royal writer Phil Dampier previously claimed Andrew was Anne’s “first love”.
“You see them together at Royal Ascot every year and they are best friends,” he told IBTimes UK last year. “He was her first love and their bond goes very deep.”
Camilla, as many will know, went on to marry Andrew in 1973 but continued on her affair with Prince Charles.
Andrew and Camilla eventually divorced in 1995 and she went on to marry Charles in 2005.
Pass us the popcorn, we cannot wait for this storyline to be played out on The Crown.
