Prince William Would Reportedly Have a Hard Time Trusting Harry if He Reconciled With the Royal Family

Though it's possible the brothers may make up, a lack of trust in their relationship "could hold them back."

The rift between Prince Harry and Prince William—and the rest of the royal family—continues. While there is hope that the brothers might be able to reach reconciliation some day, a royal source speculates that William may struggle with fully trusting Harry again after the release of his memoir, Spare.

"Time’s a healer and I’ve noticed they haven’t said much, they’ve been very low-key and that can be showing that they are changing their direction. It’s possible that over time that could be fixed," King Charles's former royal butler, Grant Harrold, told Slingo. "But the only thing I am aware of is William has this massive thing about trust. I think that’s the tricky bit and could hold them back."

Harry making amends isn't as simple as patching up his relationship with William—all of his royal relatives, including the organization at large, are involved. “If Harry wanted to go back into the Royal Family, it’s not just William and Catherine, but his dad, the King and the whole organisation," Harrold said. "Harry attacked the whole lot so for him to suddenly change things they’ll be saying 'Oh this could be risky.' They could let him back in but he could backstab them. So I think William will just let time play its way and see how long it takes for things to heal."

"I still think they will reconcile at one point as they get older because I can't see two people that were so close like William and Harry not getting on again," Harrold added. "I understand how it happened, family fallouts are common but there’s always part of you that wants to fix it even though it may not be the same relationship as it was before."

According to multiple reports, Harry does want back in with the family and is reportedly heartbroken at how his relationships within it have deteriorated. "He really misses that warm, uncomplicated relationship [with Middleton], and he is torn between loyalty to his wife and regret about the loss of the woman he was so close to," royal author Tom Quinn previously told The Mirror. "Losing Kate was Harry's second great loss after losing his mother."
