Why Prince Harry and Meghan want a male nanny

Prince Harry and Meghan are looking for a male nanny to help them with childcare duties, after they welcome their first child into the world in April.

Meghan is said to want to introduce the royal family to a more ‘enlightened, modern American approach’.

“Hiring a ‘manny’ is far more common in the US – a nation that Meghan is more in tune with – than in the UK,” a source told The Sun newspaper.

“Of course, Harry had a very Tomboyish nanny himself in Tiggy who taught him and William about abseiling, fishing and other outdoor pursuits in Monmouthshire.

“He and Meghan have discussed nannies and both have open minds to a male nanny. They will definitely try to shortlist one. They are exploring all their options, and will be employing a nanny from September.”

Big pregnancy hint

While it hasn’t yet been announced when the Duchess of Sussex is due to give birth, the 37-year-old may have just dropped a hint about her pregnancy at a Buckingham Palace event.

Meghan attended a special reception for Prince Charles at the palace on Tuesday, where she was joined by her husband, Prince Harry and her in-laws, Kate Middleton and Prince William.

And while mingling with guests, the former Suits actress revealed that she hasn’t got long left before welcoming her first baby into the world.

“I look different than when you saw me last!,” Meghan told a male guest, who asked the Duchess how she was doing and noted that she’s probably sick of everyone asking her about her pregnancy.

“No, it’s actually very sweet,” Meghan told the guest. “It’s a very sweet, nurturing thing to ask. We’re nearly there!”

It isn’t the first time Meghan has let slip some information on her due date.

Royal godparents

Following the arrival, attention is expected to shift towards which other famous faces are set to play a pivotal role in the youngster’s life.

While most of us have just two godparents, the duke and duchess will likely follow royal tradition and enlist up to eight of their nearest and dearest into the coveted role.

Jessica and Ben Mulroney are among the frontrunners to nab a spot as baby Sussex’s godparents – following on from their three children’s roles in Meghan’s bridal party last May.

As perhaps the most high-profile member of Meghan’s famous girl gang, Serena Williams is a likely contender for godparent, after supporting her friend’s transition onto the global stage.

Adding a touch of Hollywood glamour to the pomp and privilege of any royal event, George and Amal Clooney would be welcome early influences in baby Sussex’s life.

Princess Eugenie and one of Harry’s oldest friends Charlie Van Straubenzee are also in the running.
