Royal couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have taken to social media to share a touching tribute to the late Princess Diana.

The post on the Duke and Duchess’ official Instagram account, Sussex Royal, features an inspiring quote by Lady Di, who passed away in 1997.

Diana’s voice

“Carry out a random act of kindness with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you,” reads the quote, which has been written in white font on a deep blue background.

Exactly when and where the ‘People’s Princess’ said the words appears to have been lost in history, but as Harry and Meghan’s captions indicates, their effect is still just as strong.

“Words have the power to inspire, which is why we’re happy to share some of our favourite quotes,” the pair wrote.

”From members of the public to public figures, from teachers and students to young leaders, we begin with a quote from Diana, Princess of Wales,” they added.

Lots of love

The heartwarming gesture marks the very first time the pair have formally referenced Harry’s beloved mum, who would have turned 58 this year.

Fans quick to praise the new parents’ post, with one writing, “Harry is definitely Diana’s son.”

“Meghan and Harry you’re making the world a better place. Very proud and I stand with you,” said another.

One fan shared how Diana has inspired them to give back, writing, “I buy breakfast for homeless people every year on her birthday to honour her from across the pond.”

Honouring his mum

Both Harry and Meghan are devoted to carrying on Diana’s legacy through their own charitable ventures, such as their new Forces For Change initiative which they launched in August.

They kicked off the campaign by first unfollowing every single account they’d been following since they launched their own account back in April, then selected just 15 accounts to follow in order “to highlight lesser known organisations and shine a light on those working hard behind the scenes.”

“These accounts showcase those persevering at the grassroots level, connecting our global community through a shared lens of giving back and helping one another. We were so happy to learn about them and are now able to share them with you!” they wrote in a post.

Always with them

Sharing the quote may have been the first time Harry and Meghan have openly paid tribute to Diana, however, they have previously made a subtle nod to the late Princess.

On Mother’s Day earlier this year the proud parents posted of the Duchess cradling baby Archie’s tiny feet in front of a bush of forget-me-nots, which were Diana’s favourite flower.

“Paying tribute to all mothers today - past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered. We honour and celebrate each and every one of you,” read the caption.

Prince Harry was just 12 when his mother tragically died in a car accident in Paris 22 years ago, and has continued to make efforts to keep her relatives involved in big royal events such as Harry’s son Archie’s christening.
