Harry and Meghan resign as senior royals: The stories you might have missed

It’s been an eventful week for the royals.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised the nation – and the Royal Family – last Wednesday by announcing they were stepping down as senior royals.

This was followed by a meeting at Sandringham last Monday, where senior members of the royal family including Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry met with the Queen in order to discuss the couple’s next move.

The outcome was summarised in a statement from the Queen, published on the Royal.uk website, which confirmed the Royal Family’s “supportive” approach towards the Sussexes.

Yet many questions remain unanswered about what form the couple’s “progressive new role” might take.

Here’s are the stories you might have missed over the past week:

Meghan and Harry fly their dogs to Canada

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s two dogs have been flown to Vancouver Island in Canada, a move which could indicate the couple’s intention of setting up a home there.

The two dogs – Meghan’s beagle Guy, a rescue dog she adopted before meeting Prince Harry, and the couple’s black Labrador, are said to have remained in Canada when the couple travelled back in the UK for an engagement at Canada House on 7 January.

Prince William and Prince Harry deny allegations of bullying

Prince William and Prince Harry have issued a firm denial to a “false” newspaper story speculating on their relationship, calling the story “offensive and potentially harmful”.

Their statement does not specify which newspaper they are referring to, but comes after The Times reported a source as saying the Duke and Duchess of Sussex felt they had been pushed out by William’s “bullying” attitude.

Buckingham Palace explains why Meghan didn’t join Sandringham summit

Following the Royal Family’s discussion in Sandringham last Monday, Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Duchess of Sussex did not take part – after the Sussexes decided it wasn't necessary.

It had initially been speculated Prince Harry’s wife might participate via a video conference link.

Meghan makes her first public appearance since ‘Megxit’

On Tuesday, Meghan made a surprise visit to a women’s shelter in Vancouver.

The visit was announced by an image, shared on the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre’s Facebook account, which featured Meghan smiling alongside women from the local community.

The duchess travelled to Victoria Harbour Airport in mainland Vancouver from Vancouver island via a sea plane, according to a report on Mail Online.

‘Megxit’ merchandise goes on sale

Within days of Meghan and Harry announcing they were stepping down as senior royals, independent sellers on Amazon and Etsy began selling “Megxit” merchandise.

This includes everything from “Team Sussex” T-shirts, to mugs, pillows and tote bags.
