Harry and Meghan Issue Bold Message About Online Bullying

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no strangers to the world of online bullying, and now the couple is opening up about their efforts to protect kids—including their own—from harm on the internet.

In their first joint interview since chatting with Oprah in 2021, the couple—who share son Archie Harrison, 5, and daughter Lilibet Diana, 3—sat down with CBS News Sunday Morning anchor Jane Pauley about why and how they're hoping to help families who've been impacted by digital bullies.

"Our kids are young. They're three and five. They're amazing," Markle said. "But all you want to do as parents is protect them. And so, as we can see what's happening in the online space, we know that there's a lot of work to be done there, and we're just happy to be able to be a part of change for good."

"At this point, we've got to the stage where almost every parent needs to be a first responder," agreed Prince Harry. "And even the best first responders in the world wouldn't be able to tell the signs of possible suicide. That is the terrifying piece of this."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who founded the charitable Archewell Foundation, also spoke about the launch of their new program, The Parents Network, which will support parents whose children have been negatively affected by social media.

As Parade previously reported, Prince Harry recently revealed the reason why he won't travel to the United Kingdom with Markle and his children in an interview for ITV's Tabloids on Trial.

"It felt like harassment,” Harry said, explaining how he and Markle were relentlessly hounded by paparazzi while living in England. “It felt horrible then. It feels horrible now.”

"It's still dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read," he added. "And whether it's a knife or acid, whatever it is, and these are things that are of genuine concern for me. It's one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country."
