Prince Harry 'hardly knew' Meghan Markle before their wedding, expert claims

In the space of three years, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have fallen in love after being set up on a blind date, married in front of a live global TV audience and welcomed their baby son, Archie, into the world.

And while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might be blissfully happy after their whirlwind romance blossomed in front of our eyes, it seems other members of the royal family may have been concerned about how fast they moved their relationship along.

According to one royal expert, Prince Harry’s brother, Prince William, and his sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, were worried the 34-year-old ‘hardly knew’ the woman he married on May 19th last year.

"It was all so quick that William and Kate didn't have a moment to get to know Meghan because Harry hardly knew Meghan," Ingrid Seward, royal expert and editor of Majesty Magazine said in a new documentary, William & Harry: Princes At War?.

"And of course William and Kate would have quite naturally thought 'oh she's been married before, she's older than Harry, I hope she's going to make him happy'. Anyone would think that."

Indeed, even Prince Harry and Meghan Markle themselves admitted that they were almost strangers when they were first set up on a blind date in 2016.

“ I’d never watched Suits, I’d never heard of Meghan before. And I was beautifully surprised when I, when I walked into that room and saw her,” Prince Harry famously said in the couple’s official engagement interview with the BBC.

“There she was sitting there, I was like, "OK, well, I’m really gonna have to up my game!" (laughs) Sit down and have a, and make sure I’ve got good chat.”

Meghan agreed, saying she thought it was ‘really refreshing’ that they knew hardly anything about each other.

“Everything that I’ve learned about him, I learned through him. As opposed to having grown up around different news stories, or tabloids, or whatever else,” the now 38-year-old Duchess of Sussex said.

“Anything I learned about him and his family was what he would share with me. And, vice versa. So for both of us, it was just a really authentic and organic way to get to know each other.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle whirlwind romance is also said to be behind the alleged ‘feud’ between the couple and Harry’s older brother, Prince William.

The future king apparently gave some ‘brotherly advice’ to Harry when he first started dating Meghan but it didn’t go down too well.

Prince William is reported to have told Prince Harry to take things slow with the former Suits actress before officially asking her to marry him.

“I think it was meant very kindly in a well-meaning way but Harry was very defensive of Meghan and took it completely the wrong way and said to William something along the lines of ‘You’re trying to destroy this relationship before it’s even started’,” Emily Andrews, royal correspondent for The Sun, toldYahoo UK’s ‘The Royal Box’.
