Despite their global profile, the royal family are known for their at times indomitable ability to keep private matters just that.

But now rumours are swirling that Prince Charles is desperately trying to publicly sideline a once-integral member of The Firm – his younger brother, Prince Andrew.

The allegations come as part of a new, aptly named, documentary The Royal Family At War which contains explosive details about the brothers’ supposed fall out.

Primarily, Charles’ concern appears to focus on Andrew ‘ruining the Queen’s legacy’ through is questionable and often-controversial behaviour.

Included in this string on indiscretions are a friendship with disgraced billionaire paedophile Jeffery Epstein and his ‘Airmiles Andy’ reputation which refers to the prince’s penchant for luxury travel, often at the taxpayers’ expense.

“There probably has been occasions where Prince Charles has considered Andrew to be a bit of a liability to the royal family,” royal expert Victoria Arbiter is reported to say in the documentary.

“That image of Prince Andrew being the playboy at large rankles Prince Charles. He finds it embarrassing.”

The comments come amid Charles’ long-held belief that the royal family should be ‘slimmed down’ when he takes to the throne.

Notably absent from this update would be both Andrew and his increasingly popular daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

“(Charles) needs a slimmed-down monarchy in order to remain relevant to future generations, because people do get frustrated with the so-called “strap-hangers” Victoria said in reference to “the people that are being funded by the monarchy but don’t do an awful lot.”

This vision was most evident in 2012 when during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, just Charles and his immediate clan were invited to stand by her side on Buckingham Palace’s famed balcony.

“There seemed to be a very clear message that this was the future,” royal expert Penny Junor says in the documentary.

“That going forward it would be the core family, and that was it.”
