Yahoo Lifestyle Prince Andrew forced to abandon tradition during Queen's funeral procession
Prince Andrew has returned to the public spotlight since the death of his mother, the Queen, but he was forced to abandon a royal tradition during her coffin procession on Monday.
As he and his siblings, King Charles III, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, made their way through the streets of Edinburgh, there was a notable difference in the attire of Prince Andrew.
While his siblings donned a military uniform, a long-standing royal tradition at public ceremonial events, Prince Andrew sported a simple black suit instead.
The Duke of York was banned from wearing his military attire after he was stripped of his royal duties and military titles and forced to step down from public life, over his friendship with paedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, and sexual assault claims.
Ahead of his settlement in January, the Queen, his mother, stripped him of all of his honorary military roles, including Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, which prohibits him from sporting military uniform at public events.
The Queen's second son is unable to wear military uniform at the Queen's funeral and other events in the coming days, according to reports.
But sources told the UK's Evening Standard he will be dressed in uniform for the final vigil as a show of respect for his mother, the Queen.
Other working royals including Prince Andrew's brother, King Charles III and his nephew William, The Prince Of Wales, are among those who will be donning military-style dress at the state funeral and other ceremonial events in the coming days.
Brutal wardrobe rule for Prince Harry
It's understood Prince Harry will also be banned from wearing military uniform to events commemorating the Queen, including her state funeral.
When he and his wife Megan Markle stepped down as senior members of the royal family in 2020, Prince Harry was also stripped of his honorary military titles, meaning he too was forced to forfeit his uniform.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral in April 2021 was the first time Harry had returned to the UK and the issue was dealt with by the Queen who decided that no members of the royal family should wear uniform.
But while Prince Andrew will be allowed to don military clothing at the Queen's vigil, her grandsons Prince William and Prince Harry will not be in attendance, therefore no permission has been given to Harry to wear it, it's been reported.
Prince Andrew heckled by protestor
Until now, Prince Andrew has remained out of the public eye, but even with the nation, and the world, mourning the Queen's death, some couldn't help but share their disgust with the Duke of York.
During the somewhat sombre procession, a protestor began aggressively shouting at the Prince which was heard during the live coverage on BBC.
"You're a sick old man," the 22-year-old man was heard shouting before being dragged away by police.
