Prime Minister Scott Morrison takes swipe at Karl Stefanovic
When it comes to live television, you never really know what’s going to happen.
Karl Stefanovic was reminded of that this morning when he took aim at Australia’s latest Prime Minister Scott Morrison, during an interview on the Today show.
Questioning the state of the Liberal Party after last month’s leadership spill, he said, “Your party is an absolute dog’s breakfast”.
“Grab the Selleys, stop the leaks and you might have a chance…. There is a leak every day.”
But ScoMo wasn’t about to take those comments lying down.
Unexpectedly, the Prime Minister hit back at the presenter by making mention of Karl’s own life and the bad press that he’s attracted over the past couple of years.
“Karl, you’ve been through some torrid events in your career and look at you,” ScoMo said.
On a lighter note, the PM also referred to Karl as “Australia’s hero”.
“You get over these things,” he added. “You move past them.”
Sniggering at being referred to as a “hero”, Karl said he’d gladly “take” the compliment.
“I take inspiration from you, mate,” ScoMo told Karl.
“Don’t take anything from me my friend, just go on and lead this country,” Karl replied.
Nearly two years ago in September 2016, after 21 years of marriage and raising three children together, Karl announced he was separating from wife Cassandra Thorburn.
The pair eventually divorced a year later.
Shortly after, Karl started dating shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough at the end of 2016, and he is now engaged to the 34-year-old.
