The pregnancy tradition Meghan Markle is banned from taking part in

There’s many perks that come with royal life, especially when you’re pregnant – the best maternity wardrobe, finest doctors and a personal makeup artist to make you look your best after the birth.

However, there are some drawbacks too, which will stop Meghan Markle partaking in one pregnancy tradition before the birth of her first child with husband Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly banned from having a baby shower, according to royal expert Victoria Arbiter.

“[They have] added pressure that they’re clearly very wealthy and a lavish baby shower would be seen as highly inappropriate,” she told People. “There’s nothing they can’t go out and buy themselves.”

If either Meghan or Harry do receive any gifts, they are to be “respectfully returned”.

It’s a tradition Meghan’s sister-in-law, Kate Middelton, also missed out on during her three pregnancies with Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, three, and eight-month-old Prince Louis.

However, just like they did for their wedding, it is possible Meghan, 37, and Harry, 34, could request charitable donations to be made, rather than gifts being sent.

For their May 2018 nuptials, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex requested that well-wishers and guests donated to charities they support.

Some of the organisations included The Children’s HIV Association (CHIVA), homeless charity Crisis, the Myna Mahila Foundation and many more.

Meghan and Harry are set to welcome their first child together in April.
