You’re pretty big now and starting to look forward to the end of all this pregnancy – aren’t you? Your belly is starting to perform small “practice” contractions called Braxton Hicks. You might be starting to feel very restless and wanting to clean your house, throw things out and get ready for your new arrival. This ‘nesting’ instinct is very common and useful, but do be careful not to overdo things too much. Call on a friend or your partner to help if possible.

From now on, you'll visit your healthcare provider on a weekly basis. At your next antenatal visit, you'll have a vagina swab test to check for group B Streptococcus (GBS), a common bacterium many women carry in their vagina without any problems. However, GBS infection of the newborn can cause serious illness, so pregnant women in Australia are routinely screened in the third trimester. If your swab is found to be GBS positive you may be given intravenous antibiotics during labour and delivery to stop your little one becoming infected.

Baby

Your baby is now around 47 cm long and weighs about 2.7kg. He is starting to get a little chubbier and little fat deposits are accumulating in the creases of his neck and wrists, giving his body some reserves of energy that he will need during and after his big journey into the world.
