Michelle Birnbaum is 32 years old, but she’s only had eight real birthdays thanks to being born on February 29, the Leap Day which only occurs once every four years.

And while it’s not unheard of for parents to share a birthday with their offspring, experts estimate the chances of a mother born on a Leap Day also giving birth to a baby on a Leap Day are as little as two million-to-one, so Michelle never expected to have a birthday buddy, the New York Post reports.

However her daughter Rose had other ideas – Michelle went into labour on February 28, 2008, but didn’t give birth until 11 hours later on February 29.

Michelle says she doesn’t feel disadvantaged by only having a birthday once every four years, and says that growing up it was an excuse for two-day long birthday celebrations spanning February 28 and March 1 each year.

She insists she never planned to create two generations of Leap Day birthdays, but says she’s excited about sharing her birthday with her daughter.

‘It was just luck, all the stars lined up at the right time,’ Michelle told the New York Post.
