Trends in the annual McCrindle Research report show that names that were popular 100 years ago are having a moment. The names William, Jack and Ruby, which were popular in the early 20th century, each made an appearance in the top ten lists for boys and girls.

The Royals are heavily influencing this trend towards classic names. Out of the 22 names in the Royal family, 12 of these have made it into the top 100 Australian baby names.

Thanks to Prince William, his name is the second most popular boys name in Australia overall and took the top position in New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT and the NT.

Prince George is also boosting the popularity of his name. George is now ranked 60th, up from 71st in 2012, which is the highest rank it has since the 1970s.
