If the pandemic has taught me anything, it’s that there are a lot of things I want that I don’t necessarily need. Case in point: PopSockets’ new press-on nails that match your phone’s PopGrip.

Sure, maybe you don’t need nails that match your phone, but after seeing these nail designs, you’ll definitely want them.

You probably know of PopSockets as the brand that makes the PopGrip, the easy-to-use grip for holding your phone or using as a stand. It sticks on to the back of your phone and has a swappable “PopTop,” so you can update your phone according to your style. The brand has expanded to making phone wallets, car mounts, can holders and even has a lip balm collab with Burt’s Bees. But now, they’re making nails.

The PopSocket Nails Mani Phoni Kit combines a set of press-on nails with a matching PopGrip. It’s a totally ridiculous concept, yet fabulous for taking the most flawless mirror selfie.

The Mani Phoni collection comes in a variety of 15 fun and trendy graphics and colors, including rose gold metallic, unicorn marble, opal and more. The kits cost $15–$20, or you can purchase the nails on their own for $10–$13. (Heads up, the Blue Nebula nails even have a matching fabric face mask available, if that’s your vibe.)

PopSockets sent me a kit to try and let me tell you, as someone who always has their nails done, these press-on nails did not disappoint. Pre-pandemic, I frequently painted my nails at home or went to the nail salon to get a gel manicure. However, since quarantining, I started experimenting with press-on nails and these nails by PopSockets have become a new favorite — particularly the Painterly Pastels kit.

PopSockets’ nails are meant to stay on for five days, however, I kept mine on for about seven. The kits come with 30 adhesive nails in varying sizes, a prep pad, cuticle stick and a mini nail file.

To start, you’ll want to first choose which sizes match your nails best — it’s better to go a little smaller if there isn’t a perfect match. Next, use the cuticle stick to push back your cuticles, as the press-on nails will stick easier and stay on longer if they’re not touching your skin. Then, use the prep pad to clean your nails. To apply, start by sticking on the pinky nail and then move in towards your thumb, and repeat on the other hand. Once they’re stuck on, you can use the mini nail file to shorten the nails to your liking.

I have incredibly small hands and nail beds, so even short press-on nails like these ones feel a bit long. I ended up using small nail clippers to trim them down, then used my own big file to smooth the ends. They looked incredibly natural and I was pretty happy with the results.

I wasn’t the only person impressed by these nails though. Later in the day after applying, I posted a picture on Instagram holding an ice cream cone (basic, I know) and my DMs were flooded with questions on where I got my nails done.
