“I’m almost out of thyme,” The Pioneer Woman host joked, holding up a handful of the herb before heading back inside. From there, she walked fans through the list of ingredients as she added them one by one to the slow cooker. While chopped carrots and onions were expected, she admitted that her preference for “a little splash of browning sauce” was somewhat “controversial.”
“I only do this when I cook roast in the slow cooker,” she added. She provided further explanation for the "controversial ingredient" choice in her Instagram caption, writing, “I don’t like to sear/brown things before I cook them in a slow cooker! I think it defeats the whole purpose.”
Once every ingredient was accounted for, the mother of five instructed fans that her recipe benefits from a lengthy cooking time. “This is where you have to cook the pot roast until it absolutely falls apart,” she said. "It could take five hours, it could take eight hours. If it’s tough, you haven’t cooked it long enough—so just keep cooking it in 30-minute intervals until it shreds.”
Drummond demonstrated in the sped-up video, pulling the roast out after it spent hours cooking. After breaking it apart, she returned the meat to the slow cooker so it could stay warm until it was ready to be consumed. She recommended spooning the dish onto mashed potatoes and showed off a prepared serving.
“Look at this—oh my gosh, there’s nothing better than good pot roast,” she said.
“Well, now I’m droolin’ 😋 looks dang perfect 😍😍,” one fan wrote in the post’s comment section.
Another Instagram user who identified themself as a long-time fan agreed that Drummond’s pot roast “always” looks “so deliciously mouth watering.”
“I can taste it now 🤤,” one person imagined.
“Looks sooo good,” another Instagram user commented.
