Pink defends letting her kids play in Holocaust Memorial

Pink has hit back at critics after she shared a picture of her kids running though the Berlin Holocaust Memorial.

The So What singer, who was in the German capital as part of her Beautiful Trauma World Tour at the weekend, posted an image on Instagram of her eight-year-old daughter Willow and two-year-old son Jameson running through the cement pillars of Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, built in recognition of all those who died in the Holocaust.

Pink, 39, captioned the image: “Berlin, I love you...”

“And for all of the comments; these two children are in actuality Jewish, as am I and the entirety of my mothers family. The very person who constructed this believed in children being children, and to me this is a celebration of life after death. Please keep your hatred and judgment to yourselves.”

People were quick to slam the mum for letting her two children run around the memorial.

“This is wrong for them to be running around at the Holocaust Memorial. You need to explain to them to respect. It’s not right,” one person said.

“This is a memorial, not a playground,” another commenter said.

Actress Selma Blair sent her support to the singer, commenting on the post: “I love Berlin too. I love that what happened is not being forgotten. I love this celebration of life. I love you.”

Peter Eisenman, the American architect who designed the Holocaust Memorial, said in an interview with the BBC in 2017 that he did not have a problem with how people chose to behave in the space.

He said: "People have been jumping around on those pillars forever. They've been sunbathing, they've been having lunch there and I think that’s fine. A memorial is an everyday occurrence, it is not sacred ground."

Pink’s mother is Jewish and the singer has said she identifies as Jewish.

She has previously spoken about taking daughter Willow to see the memorial in Berlin and explaining to her its significance.

Pink recalled telling her daughter: “This could have been us."

She revealed: "I asked her by the time we got to London, I said, 'What was your favourite city?' And she said, 'I think it was Berlin.' And I said, 'Why?' And she said, 'Because there was a wall and people were separated, and there was a war and people were killed, and now everybody's together and there's no more wall and there’s no more war and that means everything that’s bad can be good again.'“

Last week the Trouble singer received criticism on Instagram after sharing a picture of he children at Hamburg Zoo in Germany.

She hit back: “I believe in capturing a child’s interest and love for an animal before teaching them about things like captivity. But thank you, the world needed your wisdom today.”

Last week, the singer hit out at “the parenting police” for criticising how she raises her two kids, in an expletive-laden social media post.

The hit-maker shared a photo to Instagram of her swimsuit-clad daughter Willow having a ball running through lawn sprinklers.

She captioned the happy snap with a searing - and sweary - message to her haters that seemingly mocked their own negative comments.

“Here’s a picture of my child running through water,” Pink - born Alecia Moore - began.

“It wasn’t even filtered. What a waste of water,” she went on sarcastically.

“And no helmet? I hope she had sunscreen. If she slips and falls she may be traumatised for life.”

“And her mother wasn’t even there. I was..... gasp.... working!!!! In another country!” she concluded.
