Controversial British broadcaster Piers Morgan has hit out at the Today show, after the Channel Nine breakfast program criticised his recent ‘attack’ on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Piers had shared his two cents on the controversy surrounding Harry and Meghan’s private jet usage, by sharing a photo of himself ‘cramped’ in an economy plane seat.

However, during a discussion on Wednesday morning host Georgie Gardner said Piers “looks just to be plain jealous, doesn’t he?”

“Memo to ‘ecowarriors’ Meghan & Harry: this is what Economy to Nice looks like. Try it some time,” Piers captioned the picture posted to Twitter adding the hashtag #ManOfThePeople.

But it was comedian and radio host Lawrence Mooney who really dug into the Good Morning Britain host, saying he thought Piers “would have gone out of his way to get an economy seat”.

“He wouldn’t have flown economy since the mid-90s. He makes a little shy of three million pounds a year, he’s worth an absolute fortune, and the icing on the cake: he’s actually a climate change denier. Nice one, Piers,” Lawrence said.

“He’s a very rich, pompous climate change denier, good on ya, Piers.”

However, Piers was quick to hit back at Mooney, taking to Twitter to say the Aussie’s statement was an “absolute lie”.

“I believe it’s a very real and present threat to the planet. I just don’t preach about protecting the environment and then jump on private jets every 10 minutes,” he hit back.

Today show hosts hit out at Piers Morgan

It’s not the first time the outspoken British host and the Aussie breakfast show have traded blows over the royal couple.

Back in July, it was Meghan Markle’s guest editorship of UK Vogue’s September issue that sparked plenty of debate.

The Today show panel weighed in, lashing out at Piers for his ‘ego’ getting in the way of him seeing the good work Meghan is doing.

“Can we stop judging?” Georgie Gardner said on the Channel Nine breakfast show on July 30.

“I think at the end of the day, her intentions are good,” she added, before entertainment presenter Brooke Boney weighed in with her thoughts on Piers.

“All of it stems from Piers Morgan being hurt himself, like his own ego. Whatever,” she quipped.

Celebrities defend Harry and Meghan

Some of Hollywood’s biggest names came out in defence of the Sussexes after they came under fire from Labour MP Teresa Pearce, after jetting to the south of France just two-days after flying to Ibiza.

Ellen Degeneres said the royal couple are the most ‘compassionate’ and ‘down-to-earth’ people she’s met.

“They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people. Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you're trying to do is make the world better,” she tweeted.

Sir Elton John also defended the couple, claiming he provided them with the private jet, which he insisted was made carbon neutral.

"I am deeply distressed by today's distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's private stay at my home in Nice last week,” he wrote.

"After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home. To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight.
