What Phoebe Philo Wears on the Red Carpet

Phoebe Philo has defined fashion trends for nearly two decades.

During her nine-year stint at Chloé, Philo rose up the ranks, succeeding Stella McCartney as the label’s creative director. Following a brief hiatus, Philo returned to the fashion industry as creative director of Celine, where she made a name for herself as the sovereign of minimalist, modern design. Philo is credited with revitalizing the brand’s image, even during a recession that scathed most of the luxury market.

After years of speculation, Philo finally launched her own namesake label in 2023. The debut Phoebe Philo collection, which dropped on Monday, is now nearly sold out.

What Philo herself wears is also a matter of note: The designer famously spurred a Stan Smith revival after sporting the Adidas sneakers during Celine’s fall 2010 bow, proving that she embodies the sleek aesthetic she helped popularize.

Ahead, a look at Philo’s best red carpet fashion moments through the years.

A visibly pregnant Philo attended the British Fashion Awards, where she was awarded Designer of the Year. The creative director opted for a sequined babydoll dress paired with black opaque tights and satin round-toe pumps. At the time, Philo was the first designer at a major label to go on maternity leave.

Philo received the British Fashion Award for Designer of the Year once more, this time for her work at Celine. She opted for a black strapless jumpsuit (custom Celine, naturally), wearing it underneath a matching blazer. Philo’s accessories, also by the French label, included a box clutch, enamel cuffs and a gold bangle.
