Yahoo Lifestyle Report: Tommy 'Two Gloves' Gainey to avoid jail time after prostitution arrest
Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey reached a plea deal with prosecutors in Florida this week and is expected to avoid prison time after his arrest for allegedly soliciting a prostitute in December, according to Golfweek.
Gainey was arrested in Polk County, Florida, in December in a massive prostitution and human trafficking sting nicknamed “Operation Santa’s Naughty List.” He was one of 124 people arrested in the sting, and charged with misdemeanor solicitation.
According to Golfweek, Gainey was ordered to serve 11 months of probation, take a human trafficking class, complete 100 hours of community service and pay a fine and fees. Upon completion, prosecutors will drop the first-degree misdemeanor charge and potentially end his probation early.
Gainey turned pro in 1997 and earned his PGA Tour card almost a decade later. He rose to fame in the golf world due to his use of two golf gloves instead of one, hence the “Two Gloves” nickname. He has one PGA Tour win, and has spent much of his career bouncing between that and the Korn Ferry Tour. He has just one tour finish inside the top 25 in the past five years.
Just one month after his arrest, Gainey won The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic — the Korn Ferry Tour’s season opener — after firing a 3-under 69 and ending his round with three straight birdies. It marked his third win on the Korn Ferry Tour, and his first since 2010.
