Pluma’s song “Rubicon” has more than 125 million streams in the United States. With his surging popularity in the U.S., Pluma is a first-time finalist at this year’s Billboard Music Awards. The artist is up in five categories, including Top New Artist, Top Latin Artist, Top Latin Male Artist, Top Latin Album and Top Latin Song. Pluma has two songs up for Top Latin Song, namely “Ella Baila Sola” with Eslabon Armado and “La Bebe” with Yng Lvcas.
At only 24 years old, Pluma is quickly making a name for himself in the music industry. His album “Génesis” debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart and became the highest-charting regional Mexican album ever. The album also has the all-time highest streaming week for a regional Mexican album, with 101.8 million song streams in its first full week. “Génesis” would spend 15 weeks at number one on the Top Latin Albums chart, making history again with the most number of weeks at number on the chart for a regional Mexican album.
In addition to being a finalist for Top Latin Song, “Ella Baila Sola” also became the first regional Mexican song to hit the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also topped the Billboard Global 200 chart for six weeks in 2023 and topped the Hot Latin Songs chart for 19 weeks.
The 2023 Billboard Music Awards will roll out with performances and awards across Billboard’s social channels and on BBMAs.com/watch on Nov. 19, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. Marriott Bonvoy is presenting this year’s awards.
