Is Percy Jackson and the Olympians coming back for season 2?

The gods, or rather the mouse, have spoken! Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be coming back for season 2, Disney+ announced on February 7, 2024.

What would season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians be about?

Thankfully, we don't have to make too many guesses because Rick Riordan himself confirmed that the series will be moving onto the second book of the series, Sea of Monsters.

“I can’t wait to bring the next season of Percy Jackson to Disney+! Raise anchors," he said in a press release. "Hoist the mainsail. All hands on deck, demigods. We’re heading for the Sea of Monsters!"

And if you haven't read the book just yet, here's a little sneak peek of what to expect thanks to publisher Disney Hyperion:

After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson—a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any “normal” friends.

But things don’t stay quiet for long. Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: the magical borders which protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner by the Cyclops Polyphemus on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters, the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millennia—only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new name…the Bermuda Triangle.

Now Percy and his friends—Grover, Annabeth, and Tyson—must retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes by the end of the summer or Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed. But first, Percy will learn a stunning new secret about his family—one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon’s son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

Who will be returning for season 2?

The special press release announcing the new season confirmed that Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri will all be back. We'll likely see other familiar faces again, especially at Camp Half-Blood.

But one actor we won't see back will be Lance Reddick, who unfortunately passed away before Percy Jackson and the Olympians was released. It was later announced in November 2025 that Courtney B. Vance will be replacing Reddick.

"I can’t tell you how excited I am to join the extraordinary cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians!" Vance said in a statement, according to Variety. "There are few moments in an actor’s career when you can honestly say that you’re about to board a series that has such a devoted fan base filled with characters beloved around the world and is based on a wildly successful book series. I know that stepping into this role of Zeus will be a memorable experience and I’ll be giving my brother, Lance Reddick, who left us way too soon, a heavenly hug."

Anything about any new characters?

Well, we already knew that Tyson would play a big part in season 2 so it was only a matter of time before we found out who would play him. Daniel Diemer got the coveted role, which was announced the San Diego Comic Con 2024.

"I’ve been found. 🔱 Have the best brand new little brother I could ask for, and an extended family I could only dream of. So grateful. So excited. I love these books. I love this show. I love Tyson. And I love these people. I can’t wait for every moment of this journey. Thank you to the fans for welcoming me with such open arms. Doing everything I can to make you proud," he wrote on Instagram.

And then there's obviously Thalia! Fans have been wondering who would be playing the demigod daughter of Zeus and Disney finally revealed the news on September 23, 2024. Tamara Smart won out the coveted role and she also has a special connection to the late Lance Reddick. They previously played daughter and father in Resident Evil

"I’m so grateful and excited to be joining the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It’s so close to my heart. Lance Reddick and I always spoke about working together again, so it’s that much more special and important to me to play his daughter once more as Thalia, and to keep his memory alive. I feel his presence all around me and strive to make him proud on this exciting journey," she said in a press release sent by Disney.

She later posted a photo of her and Reddick on Instagram with the caption, "For you."

At Brazil's D23 festival, Andra Day was revealed to be the one and only Athena. Fans have been wondering who would play the iconic Goddess of Wisdom for quite some time and we also got her first photo on set with her on-screen daughter!

When will Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 be released?

While we may have an official renewal, it'll be a while until we find out when it'll make its big return. That being said, with how quickly it got renewed, there's a chance we won't have to wait too long for season 2.
