People are desperate for Meghan Markle to be pregnant

She’s been a married woman for five months now, and speculation about Meghan Markle‘s figure has never been so high.

The Duchess of Sussex arrived in Sydney on Monday for the start of her and Prince Harry’s first major international tour and people have already started looking for clues that she may be expecting.

Her schedule will see her and Harry separate to carry out a number of solo engagements while in Australia, but people have already suggested that there are ulterior motives for this.

Both Woman’s Day and New Idea magazines have claimed that the fact Meghan will be doing something else while Harry climbs the Sydney Harbour Bridge is proof that she’s pregnant. Women who are six months pregnant or more are not advised to climb the bridge, but those under six months are welcomed to with a form from their doctor.

Meanwhile people on social media were quick to point out that she carried two folders off the plane, saying that too was evidence of a baby.

Likewise, the 37-year-old drew speculation for wearing a Givenchy coat dress to Princess Eugenie‘s wedding, with Twitter users noticing that Meghan didn’t remove her coat throughout the service.

Talking to Kate Thornton on Yahoo UK’s special live episode of The Royal Box,’ broadcaster Vanessa Feltz says: “That shape of coat when she normally wears a tightly belted coat, she’s doing the opposite of that, she’s keeping it done up.”

It’s worth noting that when the Duchess was previously photographed, during a day of engagements in Sussex on 3 October, she removed her coat to reveal a fitted pencil skirt – and no bump in sight.

Harry and Meghan’s royal tour includes travelling to Fiji and Tonga, countries which have a moderate risk of Zika virus transmission.

The NHS advises pregnant women not to travel to countries with high or moderate risk of the virus and also recommend that those trying to conceive should avoid doing so for up to eight weeks after they return home.

Feltz adds: “I’m thinking she is the age she is, we know she wants a family because her father keeps splurging out all the details.

“We know that he says that she wants a baby urgently and I reckon they’re probably trying, and I think that coat is certainly alluding to the prospect, even if it doesn’t necessarily signify.”

Meghan may very well be pregnant or trying to become pregnant – after all, she and Harry have made no secret of their desire to start a family soon. But all the bump watch speculation can’t help but seem a bit much, especially considering that many women desperately want to fall pregnant but struggle to conceive.

UPDATE:

On Monday evening, Kensington Palace put an end to the rumours by announcing that a royal baby was indeed on the way.

“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019,” they revealed in a statement.

The news came just before Harry and Meghan’s first official day of the tour on Tuesday.
