We may be freezing our socks off in Australia but over in Denmark, Princess Mary and her family are enjoying their summer holidays in the sun.

The 46-year-old Tasmanian-born beauty, has been pictured with her adorable four children and dashing husband, Prince Frederik, at Gråsten Palace in the Jutland area of the country.

And people on Instagram can’t get over how grown-up Prince Christian, 12, Princess Isabella, 11, Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, both seven-years-old, look.

“I can’t believe prince Christian is almost taller than Mary! Where does the time go??,” one person said.

So lovely to see the family – it’s been a while since we’ve seen them. Such a happy looking family.”

The whole family looked happy and relaxed as they waved at the waiting crowd, while watching the changing of the guards outside the palace.

Her Majesty, Queen Margrethe, has been at the palace for the past few weeks, taking her first vacation there without her husband Prince Henrik, who sadly passed away in February.

The royal couple had been taking holidays there together since 1935, when they tied the knot and were gifted the castle as a wedding present.

Earlier in the week, the whole royal family were pictured watching the Gråsten Ringriderforening procession at Gråsten Castle.

It’s been a tradition for years that the procession of around 300 riders and more than 100 children cycle past the southern Jutland castle, where the royal family are staying.

Their appearance outside the royal residence comes just weeks after it was reported that Princess Mary is in ‘Queen training’ as she prepares to take over the throne.

Crown Princess Mary, who wed Prince Fredeik in a lavish ceremony in 2004, is apparently being put through her paces by none other than Queen Margrethe, who is said to be keen to prepare the royal for her new role.

Indeed, there have been mumblings amongst royal insiders for months now about Princess Mary and Prince Frederik taking over the throne.

“When Queen Margrethe brings Mary to an event she has been attending herself for years, it is her very clear way of saying to her daughter-in-law ‘This is something you will be taking on yourself one day’,” a royal insider previously told Woman’s Day.

Princess Mary’s husband, Prince Frederik, is first in line to the Danish throne and if his mother were to decide to abdicate, he would be the next king, making Princess Mary his queen.

Indeed, the 77-year-old Queen’s decision to abdicate wouldn’t be a big surprise to many, as she has herself suffered with her health in the last few years.

Just before Christmas, it was speculated that Queen Margrethe may actually abdicate on New Year’s Eve and was set to announce her decision in her New Year’s Eve speech, however that didn’t come to fruition.
