Penny Lancaster has broken down in tears on Loose Women as she spoke about the menopausal symptoms she has been struggling with.

The model and TV star told her daytime TV co-stars how husband Rod Stewart has been supporting her, but was overcome with emotion as she opened up on the problems she has been experiencing.

As show host Ruth Langsford explained that they were launching a "Menopause Manifesto" to get women talking about symptoms and support they needed, Lancaster, 50, shared her own story.

Talking about a recent visit she'd had to a doctor, she said: "I had a few tears with her, I was trying to explain what I've been going through in the last few months. She said to me, you've got to get to the point where you say to yourself, 'I see you'. Where you actually..."

Lancaster became choked up with tears and was unable to continue her sentence on the live show.

Langsford asked her: "Do you feel you lose yourself a little bit? No one would look at you and go, look at gorgeous Penny Lancaster, happily married, beautiful children..."

The model, who recently became a PCSO, agreed: "You feel guilty for being upset, you go for a coffee with a friend and they say how are you, everything good? And then you burst into tears and you don't know why you're crying."

She began to cry again as her co-stars offered sympathy and tissues.

Lancaster added: "My anxiety's gone through the roof. Where I've always been very patient, I feel like I'm losing grip."

However, she said things had improved during the last six weeks as she had started new treatments and that how Stewart's support had been key.

She said: "Being able to talk to my husband is an absolute number one priority."

Langsford also shared her own experiences of having to apologise to her son after overreacting while telling him off about a "minor misdemeanour", while Jane Moore joked that "even the dog was relieved when I went on HRT".
