Paul McCartney photobombs couple's wedding pictures in 'surreal' moment

A newlywed couple from Canada have ended up with the wedding photo of a lifetime after a very familiar face rode past them on a bike while they were having their pictures taken in a park.

Jen Roscoe, 39, and her new husband, Steve Gregg, 38, were posing in their wedding garb when a friend spotted none other than music legend Paul McCartney.

This guy rides by on the bike and we sort of did a double take,” Steve told the Toronto Star. “One of my groomsmen said, ‘Hey man, that’s Paul McCartney.’”

The 76-year-old singer had performed the night before at Winnipeg’s Bell MTS Place on his Freshen Up tour.

At first, the newlyweds weren’t going to approach McCartney, but when the singer reached a dead end on his bike trail and had to turn around, Jen and Steve seized the opportunity.

Jen and I walked up to him and Jen asked him, ‘Hey, would you mind photobombing our wedding photos?’” the groom said.

McCartney graciously agreed, and photographer Laurie Dixon immortalised the “crazy” moment.

“It was so fast and in the moment I was in wedding photographer mode where all I thought was hurry up and capture this moment for them before he goes,” Laurie tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

“It wasn’t until we were walking to the car where it hit me that we just photographed a legend.”

In the photos, a congenial McCartney is dressed casually in a black puffer jacket, blue cap, and sunglasses. He then shook the couple’s hands, congratulated them, and rode off. Steve called the quick encounter “absolutely surreal” and said the irony is that it wasn’t even the best part of his day.

Though starstruck, Steve and Jen say they aren’t the biggest Beatles fans. For most people, it would have been a lifetime, awesome thing,” he told the Star. “And for me, I’m like, yeah, I got married today.”

Laurie was still stunned when she and her crew returned to their car. Later, she turned to her assistant, Tamara Large, and blurted out, “Holy crap, what just happened?”

She added that what could have been just a “really cool celebrity sighting” turned out to be an even more awesome celebrity encounter — and a once-in-a-lifetime photo op.

“Even then, it never occurred to us how much attention this photo would get,” Laurie tells us.

This isn’t the first time the good-natured McCartney has taken impromptu pictures with fans. In 2008, the singer was road-tripping on Route 66 with his wife, Nancy Shevell, when he stumbled upon five fans outside a gas station in Springfield, Ill., and playfully posed for a shot with the group.

While filming a “Carpool Karaoke” segment with The Late Late Show host James Corden in Liverpool in June, American Beatles fan Lance Mancuso — who was visiting the Beatles’ hometown for the first time — bumped into his idol. McCartney shook the fan’s hand and took a few candid pictures with him before continuing on.

And in 2014, McCartney truly photobombed, though it’s not clear whether the fan asked his permission first. The Daily Dot published a photo of the musician sitting on an outdoor bench with mogul Warren Buffett. In the forefront of the picture is teen Tom White giving the camera a thumbs-up.

For their part, Jen and Steve are taking their encounter with an icon in stride. Steve even laughed about the public’s fascination with his story.

It’s been a ridiculous amount of media coverage for something that happened for 20 seconds,” he joked.
