Paul Hollywood has been refused permission to build a motorcycle garage at his Kent farm, as it would spoil the view.

The 55-year-old Great British Bake Off judge and keen biker wanted to build a steel barn measuring 39ft by 26ft in a field beside his 18th-century farmhouse.

But the local planning authority have deemed his proposal "visually harmful" and turned down his application.

The planning officer ruled: "The building would be uncharacteristic within the setting and would be visually harmful."

Hollywood already has permission for a four bay garage on the site and the authorities felt he could not justify the need for a larger building "encroaching into the landscape" in which to store his vehicles.

The baker is reported to have been targeted by thieves last year.

A spokeswoman for Hollywood told The Sun commenting on the matter “could compromise security”.

The Bake Off judge recently revealed he was "p***ed off" when he discovered how much weight he had gained during this year's series of the show – as the filming regime meant he was unable to keep up his normal workout regime.

The 55-year-old chef said he'd managed to drop a stone and a half during lockdown due to cycling 10 miles a day, only to undo a lot of that work while in the show's COVID-19 bubble.

Hollywood said: "I put on 12 pounds in that bloody tent. Prue put on a pound. A pound during Bake Off? That’s ridiculous.

"I am p***ed off this year for the first time about it, because I was doing really well.

"Lockdown was doing me good, not bad. But my exercise regime changed when I was in Bake Off because I wasn’t allowed to leave the bubble to cycle."
