Paris Hilton Raises Eyebrows With Surprising Career Move
Paris Hilton is taking a step in an unexpected direction for her career with her latest project, as it was announced that she is producing a true crime podcast series about the death of a young woman named Daisy De La O in 2021, and how her friends and social media helped catch her killer.
The new series, My Friend Daisy, will be produced by London Audio, a division of Hilton's media company 11:11 Media, and iHeartPodcasts, and hosted by award-winning journalist Jenn Swann, who wrote a story about the case for The Cut in 2022.
Hilton commented on her new project in a press release, saying, "I'm always looking for ways to shine a light on important stories, and when I first read Daisy De La O’s story by Jenn Swann on The Cut, I was heartbroken by what she endured—but also deeply moved by the way her community came together using digital activism to demand justice."
She went on, "Women’s voices too often go unheard and I remain committed to advocating for a world where every woman’s story matters.”
"At a time when social media platforms like TikTok have come under fire, this story shows how the app has, in some cases, become a lifeline for friends and families of crime victims — for better or worse," said Swann. "Making this podcast gave me an incredible opportunity to examine this phenomenon from all angles, chronicling Daisy’s personal story and the people directly impacted by it.”
A trailer for the podcast is out, while My Friend Daisy will officially debut on March 26 with the first of 10 episodes.
While Hilton is commonly known for her work on screen, the mother of two has been very outspoken and proactive about major issues. In December, the Senate passed the Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act she championed, while Deadline reported that she raised $800,000 for relief efforts after the Los Angeles wildfires.
