The palace apologises for Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding slip up

They tied the knot back in May, but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle still haven’t sent out all their thank you cards to royal fans who mailed them well-wishes.

While they sent out the first batch of thank you’s in July, Kensington Palace has admitted there has been quite a delay in getting the rest of the cards over to eagerly waiting fans.

In comparison, Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brookbank didn’t waste any time and sent out all their handwritten thank you cards to fans just three weeks after they tied the knot in October.

Now it’s been revealed that the palace is so sorry about the awkward slip up that they are sending an apology alongside the remaining thank you cards.

As seen on royal blog Gert’s Royal, the apology comes from the head of the Correspondence Section at Clarence House, Claudia Spens.

The message reads: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have asked me to thank you for your letter of 24th May and I must apologise for the delay in responding to you. As I am sure you can imagine, this has been a particularly busy time for this office and we have, consequently, been unable to reply as quickly as we should have liked to.”

She continued: “It was so kind of you to take the trouble to write as you did and Their Royal Highnesses were immensely touches by your generous words of support. The Duke and Duchess were heartened to learn of the charitable donation you made to the Myna Mahila Foundation in their honour; this was most thoughtful and commendable of you and Their Royal Highnesses are incredibly grateful.”

While most couples tend to send out thank you notes within three months after their big day, couples are allowed to take up to a year to send them out.

Harry and Meghan’s thank you card itself features one of the couple’s wedding portraits – a lovely snapshot of the pair sharing a candid moment on the steps of Windsor captured by their photographer, Alexi Lubomirski.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been overwhelmed by all the incredibly kind cards and letters they have received on the occasion of their wedding,” the message inside the card reads. “And are so touched that you took the trouble to write as you did.”

The note concludes, “It really was most thoughtful of you and greatly appreciated by Their Royal Highnesses who send you their very best wishes.”
