Paige Deville has quit Gogglebox, accusing the show of “restrictiveness” and claiming it offers “zero aftercare support”.

The 24-year-old has been on the Channel 4 programme since 2019 but posted a message on Twitter on Friday saying it was time to leave.

“I have made the decision to walk away from Gogglebox,” she told her 8,792 followers.

“It’s been an experience but one I cannot continue with due to long hours of filming, restrictiveness, control of our actions and opinions & zero aftercare support but hey who cares about ex cast, their NTA winners.”

She didn’t say whether her mother Sally, who she appeared on the show with, would continue as an armchair critic.

A show spokesperson told Yahoo: "The welfare of contributors – past and present – is of paramount importance and robust protocols are in place to support contributors before, during and after taking part in the series.”

Deville’s departure comes soon after it was reported that five other Gogglebox stars are saying goodbye to the programme after the death of their loved ones.

The show has lost three of its stars in recent months - Pete McGarry, Mary Cook and Andy Michael.

According to the Daily Star, McGarry’s wife Linda, Michael’s wife Carolyne and their children and Cook’s friend Marina Wingrove will not return when the new series of the programme starts this week.

Executive producer Victoria Ray told the paper: “We have had people from the show pass away recently. We lost Mary and Andy. And a little while ago we lost Pete.

“Their loved ones won’t be taking part in the show for the moment. Understandably, they want their privacy.”
