Owen Wilson To Star Opposite Matt Rife In Live Nation Comedy ‘Rolling Loud’

EXCLUSIVE: Owen Wilson is set to star opposite comedian Matt Rife in Rolling Loud, an R-rated father-son comedy set at the titular hip-hop festival that is celebrating its 10th year. Production on the film, written and directed by American High’s Jeremy Garelick, kicks off on the ground at the festival in Miami this weekend.

Inspired by a true story, Rolling Loud follows an overprotective father (Wilson) who makes the worst parenting decision of his life when he sneaks his 13-year-old son into the world’s largest hip-hop music festival, setting off a chaotic adventure with his reckless co-worker (Rife) and an eccentric festival volunteer as they navigate wild crowds, security, and their own family dynamics.

Hailing from Live Nation Productions, a division of Live Nation Entertainment, and American High, the film will be produced by Garelick and Will Phelps for American High, along with Stella Bulochnikov for Pat Solitano Productions and Jolene. Exec producers include Ryan Kroft for Live Nation Productions; Pasquale Rotella, Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif of Rolling Loud; Rife; Christina Shams; and Doug Banker for Five All in the Fifth. UTA Independent Film Group is repping worldwide rights to the film, which is slated for release next year.

Wilson is coming off the second season of Disney+’s acclaimed Marvel series Loki, opposite Tom Hiddleston, where he reprises his role as Time Variance Authority agent Mobius. Most recently, he executive produced and stars in an untitled series for Apple that centers on his Pryce Cahill, an over-the-hill ex-pro golfer who hedges his bets on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom played by Peter Dager. The comedy, written and created by Jason Keller, is set to premiere in 2025.

Rife is selling out arenas around the globe with his recently announced Matt Rife: Stay Golden Tour, which includes two shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City. He also just released his first book, Your Mom’s Gonna Love Me, a memoir from Simon & Schuster that became an instant New York Times bestseller.

Wilson is repped by UTA and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum.
