“The Outsiders” Star Ralph Macchio Catches Tony-Winning Broadway Adaptation of Movie
Angelina Jolie's Broadway adaptation of 'The Outsiders' won the Tony for best musical on Sunday, June 16
Ralph Macchio is returning to his roots.
The Karate Kid star, 62, posed backstage at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York City with the cast of the Broadway musical adaptation of The Outsiders on Wednesday, June 19.
Macchio played Johnny Cade in the 1983 film The Outsiders, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Johnny is smaller than the other greasers in the film and original novel by S.E. Hinton, published in 1967. The character — who is beaten by his alcoholic father and verbally abused by his mother — is played by Sky Lakota-Lynch in the Tony Award-winning musical.
Macchio and Lynch stood next to each other in the center of the group photo as the My Cousin Vinny star grinned.

The show, which won the Tony Award for best musical at the awards ceremony on Sunday, June 16, was produced by Angelina Jolie. Her daughter, 15-year-old Vivienne, also worked on the project.
The cast and crew of the production won three additional awards on Sunday night, including best direction of a musical, best lighting design in a musical and best sound design in a musical.
Macchio's visit to the theater came about two months after his Outsiders costar Matt Dillon, who played Dallas "Dally" Winston in the 1983 film, also saw the production and posed with the cast, Jolie, 49, and Vivienne backstage.
