Yahoo Lifestyle ‘Outlander’ Season 8 Will Be the Show’s Last—Here’s What We Know
Us Outlander fans have been given quite the treat this season with more episodes than usual scheduled to come out. But now that season 7, part 2 is finally underway, you better believe that we're already looking for some reassurances that we're getting another installment of Claire and Jamie's epic love story (and some more shots of the gorgeous Scottish highlands...and maybe some hot men in kilts). The good news is we are getting another season but—and I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news here if you didn’t already know—it seems like you might want to savor these remaining episodes an extra little bit because Outlander’s days are numbered.
Okay, will there be a season 8?
The show did get renewed for an eighth season (YAY!) but…it’ll be its last (not yay). Starz announced in January that it’ll be wrapping up the Outlander story with season 8, which means the network will figure out how to end the show without knowing how the book series ends, à la Game of Thrones (here’s hoping Starz pulls off a better ending though).
If you find yourself getting too sad about the impending series finale, just remember that there’s the prequel series, Blood of My Blood, that’s also on the way. It’ll be telling the love story between Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, and listen, I’m not a big gambler but I’m willing to bet that it’s gonna be hot, hot, HOT!
What would season 8 be about?
Here’s where things get a little less clear. Season 7, part 2 is underway now with weekly episodes coming out, but we don't yet know how it ends and whether this mega-sized season will go into the eighth book in the series or not. And if so, by how much? The ninth novel came out in 2021, which means there are some definite potential spoilers to take a sneak peek at for season 8, so without giving away too much, tensions are high, the Revolutionary War is creeping closer to Fraser’s Ridge, and Claire and Jamie are getting ready to do their part. Since the 10th book still isn’t out, how it all ultimately ends is anyone’s guess.
When would Outlander season 8 come out?
Filming for the final season wrapped up in September (I'm not crying, you're crying!) but sadly we still don't have an official release date yet for season 8. So, I hate to say it, but it's possible we're in for yet another lengthy Droughtlander (AKA the perfect time to rewatch the series in its entirety, if you ask me). It doesn't help that previous seasons have all come out at totally different times of the year, so we have no release schedule to follow either. We'll be crossing our fingers for those final 10 episodes to drop ASAP.
