‘Outer Banks’ Eyes Potential Spinoffs As Netflix Series Heads Into Final Season
EXCLUSIVE: Netflix’s hit action-adventure YA series Outer Banks is set to end with its upcoming fifth season. But that may not be the end of the Pogues.
“We are excited for Season 5, and we’re excited for other stories in this universe down the line,” series’ co-creators/executive producers co-creators and executive producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke said during an interview with Deadline tied for the release of Season 4 Part 2.

They would not elaborate but indicated that ideas for potential spinoff series and other OBX universe offshoots are being explored. According to sources, no projects are currently in the works but it is logical for Netflix to attempt to extend one of its top series — something it has already done with shows like Stranger Things and Bridgerton and is exploring with Virgin River.
(In their interview, the Pates and Burke discuss the big Season 4 finale shocker and what to expect from Season 5, with Rudy Pankow and the rest of the main cast also weighing in.)
Netflix has hinted at its bigger plans for Outer Banks — expanding the OBX brand into other areas: video games, with the recently released mobile game Stories: Outer Banks; and live events, with the annual Pougelandia fan music fest. There are also licensing deals for OBX merchandise from such brands as PacSun, Lottie London and Byrd.
A social media phenom, Outer Banks has spent a total of 28 weeks in the global top 10 English TV list so far, with several more expected this year after the release of Season 4 Part 2.
The series revolves around a group of teenagers — Pogues — from the working class part of a North Carolina coastal community. It chronicles their lives, friendship and treasure-hunting adventures.
Season 4 cast includes Chase Stokes (John B.), Madelyn Cline (Sarah Cameron), Madison Bailey (Kiara), Jonathan Daviss (Pope), Rudy Pankow (JJ), Carlacia Grant (Cleo), Drew Starkey (Rafe), Austin North (Topper), Fiona Palomo (Sofia), J. Anthony Crane (Chandler Groff), Pollyanna McIntosh (Dalia), Brianna Brown (Hollis Robinson), Rigo Sanchez (Lightner), Mia Challis (Ruthie) and Cullen Moss (Shoupe).
