The one person who stopped Prince Harry from ditching his royal status

He’s always been known as the wild child of the royal family, who loved nothing more than flouting protocol.

But now it’s being claimed that there was a time when Prince Harry was so fed-up with being in The Firm, that he considering renouncing his royal status.

The only person who could reportedly dissuade him from making the life-altering decision was his grandmother, the Queen.

“Harry was a reluctant royal,” royal biographer Penny Junor said in the documentary Meghan Markle: American Princess, according to The Sun.

“I think there was a real danger at one time that Harry might turn his back on his royal life and his royal responsibilities and go and live somewhere quietly.

“In the end he stayed a royal.”

The Queen reportedly had to weigh in on the whole thing and managed to get the young prince to stay put.

Indeed, it’s long been reported that a now 34-year-old Prince Harry and the 92-year-old monarch share a strong bond.

The Queen is said to a playful relationship with Harry, while his brother, Prince William, sees the business side of their grandmother.

“William is in a very different role (to Harry) … he was born for this job, E! News royal correspondent Melanie Bromley previously told News Corp.

“For Harry and the Queen, it’s always been quite obvious that as soon as William and Kate started to have children, Harry’s potential for ever becoming king … he wouldn’t be expected to do that.

“His relationship with the Queen is a lot more fun and grandson-to-grandmother.”

Even Prince Harry’s new wife, Meghan Markle, has formed a firm friendship with the Queen.

“It’s incredible, I think, you know, a) to be able to meet her through his lens, not just with his honor and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother,” Meghan said in her engagement interview with the BBC.

“All of those layers have been so important for me so that when I met her I had such a deep understanding and of course incredible respect for being able to have that time with her. And we’ve had a really – she’s – she’s an incredible woman.”
