Ominous Florals and Grungy Tension at R13 Pre-Fall 2025

Chris Leba returned to his roots a bit more than usual for R13’s pre-fall collection, bringing back moody florals; a strong array of head-to-toe leather and fabric-blocked outerwear (like an updated take on his first collection’s shearling and leather Bear jacket) and plenty of masculine-meets-sexy-feminine tension across 91 angsty cool looks.

Leba said he was into the “punk, preppy thing,” pointing out this season’s harness loafers worn with a variety of grungy slip and midi dresses in dark, slightly ominous floral prints that, for the first time, could be worn on the reverse in signature plaid flannel. Ditto to a handful of two-fer skirts, exaggerated flannels and an oversize, raw-hemmed coat — Leba divulged the development was actually a result of hating the blank undersides of the previous season’s one-sided print numbers.

Those funky, dark florals also adorned a handful of printed and distressed knits and a solid array of leggy trousers, some of which were patchworked in the vein of motocross pants with quilted blocks.

Another strong element of pre-fall was Leba’s new assortment of denim shirts and jackets; jogger zip-ups and cashmere knits with shrunken bottom hems that twist and ride around the waist, achieving the perfect half-tucked look, without all the excess fabric billowing over. Further innovation came through shredded chiffon and mesh layers, while a new cropped leather bomber with padded collar could be unzipped on the front bodice to reveal an inner perforated layer — for ventilation, because “you do get hot in leather, but can look cool at the same time,” he said.
