It’s been more than 25 years since Nicole Kidman sadly lost two pregnancies, but it seems the pain is still just as raw.
In a heart-wrenching interview with British society magazine Tatler, the mum-of-four opened up about the loss she felt during a miscarriage at 23, and an earlier ectopic pregnancy, and how she feels the devastating topics are still far too taboo.
“I know the yearning. That yearning. It’s a huge, aching yearning. And the loss! The loss of a miscarriage is not talked about enough,” she told the publication. “That’s massive grief to certain women.”
Nicole, now 50, was married to Tom Cruise when she experienced the miscarriage. She also lost a second child when she suffered an ectopic pregnancy.
Their experiences are what led the pair — who were married for 11 years — to adopt their now grown kids, Isabella and Connor.
“There’s an enormous amount of pain and an enormous amount of joy on the other side of it,” she said, describing the feeling of finally becoming a parent. “The flipside of going through so much yearning and pain to get there is the feeling of ‘Ahhhh!’ when you have the child.”
Several years later, after splitting from Tom and marrying country singer Keith Urban, Nic went on to have two daughters, Sunday Rose, nine, and seven-year-old Faith.
Despite the anguish of losing two pregnancies, Nicole has gone on to have an incredible career and recently marked turning 50 with a sweeping win of top acting awards, including an Emmy for Best Actress.
“50 was a good year,” she said, relishing in her many triumphs.
But while her acting career is soaring, her marriage to Keith, 50, has been rocked with split rumours, something the pair haven’t addressed publicly.
However, they packed on the PDA at theCountry Music Awards in Las Vegas in April, and Keith also spilled on the amazing spark they share in the bedroom.
