Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon has taken her first trip to the hairdressers since the beginning of lockdown.

Sharing a snapshot of her haircut-in-progress to Twitter, Sturgeon described the moment as “the sweetest reunion of all”.

Meanwhile, her husband, Peter Murrell responded to say he had been “dumped” as her temporary hair stylist.

While barbers and hairdressers in England have been open since 4 July, they have only just been allowed to reopen in Scotland as lockdown restrictions continue to ease.

In the image the SNP leader could be seen wearing a tartan face covering, after they became mandatory last week, while her hair stylist was wearing a mask and visor.

Sturgeon’s trip to the hairdressers comes after she was queried about whether she’d broken lockdown rules to have her locks professionally snipped.

Back in May, Digby Jones, a crossbench peer in the House of Lords, accused Sturgeon of breaking the lockdown to have her hair professionally cut.

He tweeted that the First Minister’s hair was “something that’s concerning” him.

He asked why her hair was “immaculate” given the “enforced social distancing rules” across Scotland.

“Always done herself? Always? I think we should be told! C’mon Nicola! All your own work? Surely not!

“One rule for the rulers…” his tweet concluded.

Responding to Lord Jones’ accusations at the time, the first minister wrote on Twitter: “The number of men, like his Lordship here, who are obsessed with my hair is a bit weird tbh,” adding, “Whereas most women look at it and just know no hairdresser has been anywhere near it.”

Sturgeon isn’t the only one keen to document their post lockdown hair transformations now that hairdressers are open.

Susanna Reid showed off her post-lockdown do after visiting the hair salon over the re-opening weekend.

The GMB presenter, 49, visited celebrity hairdresser Richard Ward to tend to her unkempt locks after four long months without a trim.

“Finally allowed to have my hair done and can’t believe how excited and grateful I am - it feel like it’s my birthday,” she wrote, going on to reveal that she feels like a new woman.

“A salute to all hairdressers out there, I’m sure thousands of other women (and men) across the country are also thrilled to have you back.”

Frankie Bridge quipped that she was excited to ditch her “Lego head” hair after making her first trip to the hairdressers post-reopening.

“The lovely @mwselley sorted my hair colour out too! So I'm no longer a Lego head! Hooray!” she captioned a selfie of her new do.

Some celebrities weren’t able to wait until salons were open and instead decided to give themselves a lockdown hair over.

Emily Ratajkowski officially went blonde while quarantining trading her natural brunette locks for platinum tresses.
