Yahoo Lifestyle Nick Lachey Made A Rare Comment On His And Jessica Simpson’s Failed Marriage, 2 Years After His Now-Wife Vanessa Lachey Recalled Struggling Through Their Messy Divorce
Before he was married to Vanessa Lachey, Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson were famously an item.
If you didn’t know, Nick and Jessica were married between 2002 and 2006. Their relationship was partly documented across their MTV reality series Newlyweds, which gave viewers heaps of insight into some of their most scathing arguments.
Jessica filed for divorce from Nick in 2005, revealing in her 2020 memoir that things between them were extremely contentious behind the scenes.
Not only has Nick said he was caught off guard by Jessica’s decision to end their marriage, but he also released a breakup anthem that seemingly references the split.
Nick ended up moving on swiftly with his now-wife Vanessa, who starred in the music video of the aforementioned breakup anthem.
Nick and Vanessa — who now share three kids — are currently the hosts of Netflix's dating series The Ultimatum, which is pretty much a televised loyalty test for couples with different views on whether they should get married.
And in the latest season of the show, Nick referenced his and Jessica’s failed marriage as he advised one of the contestants.
“I, too, was previously married, divorced,” Nick said, per E! News. “So I understand the hurt, the scars that exist from that.”
“Don’t let your past define your future,” he went on. “What I truly always wanted in my life, which was to have a beautiful marriage and a beautiful family, if I hadn’t retained my belief in that, I wouldn’t have ever realized the beautiful life I have with this woman,” he added, referencing Vanessa.
This isn’t the first time that Nick’s previous marriage has been referenced on The Ultimatum.
Back in 2022, Vanessa recalled struggling at the start of her and Nick’s relationship, given that he was going through a “very public divorce.”
“He was literally in a very public marriage and a very public divorce, and I had to go through all that shit very publicly, and it was very hard for us,” she said.
“It wasn't until the moment that he was like, ‘I’m gonna let it go,’ and I said, ‘I’m gonna let it go,’ and we truly committed to each other,” she added.
