Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra secretly welcome first child via surrogate

Nick Jonas, 29, and Priyanka Chopra, 39, are first-time parents after welcoming a baby via surrogate.

The famous couple, who wed in a lavish ceremony in India in 2018, took to Instagram on Saturday to announce the happy news, which they had kept a complete secret from fans.

Their heartfelt joint message, which appeared on both stars' Instagram accounts, read:

"We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate. We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much."

The pair's baby news came as a complete surprise, with neither Priyanka nor Nick so much as hinting at the imminent arrival of a new family member in recent interviews.

The Matrix Resurrections star Priyanka opened up about wanting to start a family with "Jealous" singer Nick, to Vanity Fair earlier this month, however, she didn't reveal that the two were already preparing to welcome a little one.

"[Children are] a big part of our desire for the future. By God's grace, when it happens, it happens," she told the publication.

She added, "I've always been such a worker bee. My priority has always been the next job. I'm a very, very ambitious person. But I think the woman in me is craving balance. I'm craving my family life. I'm craving being able to do things for the soul that I didn't do because I was just 'blinders on' and working."

Back in 2018, Nick, too, was enthusiastic about the prospect of fatherhood in an interview with Spotify's The Rewind.

"I think that's a real dream, and I think I've had to grow up pretty quick. With that, you could look at it two ways," he said. "You could say that was unfair or you could say it's given me some real perspective at an early age and I've seen a lot of life at an early age, and I hope to be able to share that with a kid of my own someday."

Fans of the couple were quick to flood the comments section on their Instagram posts with lots of 'OMGs,' 'congratulations' and red love heart emojis.

Singer/actor Nick is the third of his brothers and fellow Jonas Brothers bandmates to become a father. Kevin Jonas and his wife Danielle have two daughters, while Joe Jonas and his wife, Sophie Turner, welcomed their first child, a baby girl, in 2020.

The Chopra-Jonas love story started in late 2016 when Nick slid into Priyanka's DMs on Twitter, but it was a full six months until they met in person at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar party.

They stepped out together at the Met Gala later that year, claiming they were 'just friends' and were walking the red carpet together as they were both wearing Ralph Lauren.

By May 2018, Nick and Priyanka were officially a couple and just two months later Nick popped the question in Greece.

In December 2018, the pair tied the knot at Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur in traditional Hindu and Christian ceremonies.
