J.J. Watt rips into rookie Ross Blacklock for 'selfish' ejection: 'I've spoken to Ross before'

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt was not happy with his rookie teammate and made it clear after their loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Defensive tackle Ross Blacklock was ejected late in the fourth quarter for unnecessary roughness. There was shoving after the whistle and coach Bill O’Brien said he was told by the official that Blacklock threw a punch.

Watt calls out Blacklock for ejection

Watt called Blacklock’s ejection “stupid” and “selfish” in his postgame video call with reporters, via Rivers McCown at The Athletic. The Texans were trailing the Ravens, 30-16, when the incident occurred.

“I’ve spoken to Ross before so it pisses me off,” Watt said. “It’s a very selfish move late in the game. It’s dumb. Very dumb to hurt your team in that type of setting for no reason.”

Watt rarely calls out a player so publicly like that, so it’d be wise for Blacklock to take the note.

The rookie was the No. 40 overall pick out of TCU. The Texans got the pick in the trade that sent three-time All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. The Texans got running back David Johnson, the second-round pick in the 2020 draft and a fourth-rounder in 2021.

O’Brien: Official said Blacklock threw punch

The incident was not shown on the broadcast and there was confusion at first about how Blacklock got the ejection. O’Brien said Sunday after the game he didn’t know what happened. Blacklock was immediately escorted off the field and he couldn’t ask, he said.

O’Brien told reporters on Monday morning he was told by the official that Blacklock threw a punch.

“We’ve addressed it and we’ll continue to address it today,” he said.

The Texans fell to 0-2 with the 33-16 loss to the Ravens. They have the Pittsburgh Steelers on the schedule for Week 3.
