Newlyweds have McDonald's wedding dinner

A UK bride has proudly shared photos of herself ordering a burger in her white wedding ballgown.

Sammie Trueman, 26, and new husband, Richard, 25, tied the knot in their home town of St Helen's, Merseyside, UK, on August 25.

However, after an evening of dancing and catching up with friends and family, the couple sadly missed out on their canapés and evening buffet – and by midnight, the duo were starving.

Luckily, a trip to McDonald's on her wedding day had been a "long-life dream" for Sammie, who first had the idea when she was 14 years old but never thought it would actually happen.

“Ever since I was 14 years old I had always said that I wanted to eat in McDonald's on my wedding day, I just can’t believe that we actually did it," Sammie, a retail manager, said.

After walking to the fast-food restaurant in her white dress and heels, Sammie and her new husband Richard were finally able to enjoy their first meal as man and wife.

“Richard and I decided to get married at a registry office at 5pm and afterwards we went straight to our reception at a nearby hotel," she said.

“We actually had a really good deal for our reception, it included canapés and prosecco for 40 day guests on arrival and then a hot and cold buffet for 100 evening guests which cost $3,443.

“But sadly we didn’t get to try any of it, the night went so fast and we were just too busy speaking to our guests and enjoying the music that we didn’t get chance to eat."

After spending the entire night mingling and kicking up their heels, the newlyweds realised they were desperate for something to eat.

“The party lasted until around 12.30am and by 1am we were both absolutely starving," Sammie said.

“After saying our goodbyes we walked from the hotel to McDonald's. It was only a few doors down from our hotel which was ideal and meant I didn’t have to walk far in my dress and heels."

Oddly enough, staff at the fast-food outlet were completely unfazed by the couple's extremely formal attire.

“People in there didn’t seem overly impressed, but they did tell us to sit down and they brought our food over to us which was a nice touch.

“I ordered a McChicken sandwich meal and Richard ordered his favourite, a double cheeseburger meal," Sammie said.

“We're still laughing about it now, and whenever we tell the story to friends and family they find it really amusing.”
