Newlyweds die in plane crash just days after getting married

The bodies of a newlywed couple have been recovered from the crash site of the small plane they were chartering in celebration of their wedding four days earlier.

Costas John Sivyllis, 30, and Lindsey Vogelaar, 33, were killed when the plane plunged to the ground just 15 minutes after taking off from Telluride Airport, in the US state of Colorado.

Mr Sivyllis, a United Airlines pilot and a flight instructor, was understood to be flying the Beechcraft Bonanza aircraft when it went down about 1pm on October 5.

The couple, who both worked in the airline industry, were heading back to Florida with a possible stop in Oklahoma to refuel, according to the San Miguel County Sheriff.

They had eloped to Telluride on October 1 and had been sharing adventures from their subsequent honeymoon online for their family and friends.

Heartbroken loved ones have now shared tributes to the couple on social media.

Mr Sivyllis was described “an incredible man. An incredible pilot. An incredible mentor. And an incredible friend” in a post from his friend Ryan McCormick.

“His smile was contagious. His attitude was infectious. And his passion and work ethic were inspiring in every sense of the word,” he wrote.

Mr McCrimck also recalled the first time his friend mentioned Ms Vogelaar shortly after they started dating.

“As we were fuelling the airplane he told me about this amazing woman, Lindsey, who he had just started dating, and how she was different than any other girl he’d dated.

“And let me tell you what. Lindsey was different than any other woman in the world,” he wrote.

Ms Vogelaar’s sister Courtney Vogelaar paid tribute to her “beautiful” sibling, who was also her “best friend”.

“As many of you know, my beautiful sister, best friend, and the most gorgeous bride passed away yesterday with her handsome, most cheerful, husband in a plane crash,” her post to Facebook read.

“They were married for four days, and they loved each other with all of their heart and soul. They loved life and lived it to the fullest.

“Our hearts are aching more than I can ever explain. I have been planning mine and Eric’s life together down in Florida to spend the rest of life by each other, raise our babies together, and grow old by each other. Thank you to everyone that has been reaching out, it is a lot to process.”
