As Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge watched on in the audience of Mandela: The Long Walk to Freedom, they were informed of the news the whole world was saddened to hear today.

The royal couple were told of iconic leader and freedom fighter Nelson Mandela's passing as they attended the new Mandela biopic in London.

In a sad coincidence, the former South African anti-apartheid president died before the star-studded audience of the premiere had finished watching the new film depicting his incredible life.


The royal couple were informed of Mandela's death before the end of the film, and an announcement was made of the news after the film's end credits.NEWS: The world mourns Nelson MandelaMandela's daughter Zindzi was also in attendance of the premiere event.A minute's silence was observed by the saddened and shocked audience after the announcement.
