Ashton Kutcher to play Steve Jobs

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ashton Kutcher has signed on to play Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in a new independent movie simply titled Jobs.

The film, which is scheduled to begin shooting in May, will be directed by Joshua Michael Stern from a script by Matt Whiteley.

Jobs will follow the life of the deceased inventor from his beginnings as a Northern California hippie to the innovator that forever changed the face of technology. Jobs passed away in October 2011 from complications after a relapse of his pancreatic cancer.

Kutcher has a well-established reputation as an actor of romantic comedies, but his dramatic resume is thinner, and the 34-year-old has yet to prove he can successfully carry a lead dramatic role. The filming schedule of Jobs is set to begin during Kutcher’s hiatus from his television show Two and a Half Men.

A rival biopic is also in the works, and Jobs aims to be released before the Sony Pictures competitor. The second film is based on Walter Isaacson’s best-selling biography of Jobs.
