NICOLE’S BABY HOPE: A BOY FOR KEITH!

Leaning in for a warm cuddle and smiling broadly on the red carpet at the CMT Awards last month, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban looked like they were celebrating something extra special. Now, adding to the surging baby buzz surrounding Nicole and Keith in Hollywood, one of the singer’s oldest friends has gone on the record to New Idea. ‘Keith’s kids mean the world to him, and a boy would perfectly complement his life,’ says the close pal. With two years passing since the birth of their last child, insiders say the timing is now right for the couple.

KATE’S FIRST DAYS AS A MUM

With the whole world excited about the royal baby, the Duchess of Cambridge has been busily planning her first days as a mum. Instead of complaining about insomnia and discomfort, Kate, 31, is said to be talking nonstop of how overjoyed she is about finally having her baby in her arms. ‘Both Kate and Will are so excited,’ a source explains. And the public won’t have long to wait to see the little one – with a palace aide promising William and Kate will pose with the baby for pictures as they leave hospital.

DANIELLE AND RUSS: WHY SHE’S TAKING HIM BACK

Fresh from flying around the world promoting his Superman blockbuster, Russell Crowe has now thrown himself into a rescue mission of superhero proportions: saving his 10-year marriage to Danielle Spencer. The Man of Steel star was spotted in LA with Danielle last week – nine months after their separation went public. It’s a breakthrough for Russell, who for a long time struggled to make headway with his estranged wife. ‘Russell has never given up hope that he would win Danielle back,’ a family source tells New Idea of the holiday jaunt.

RAY MEAGHER & KATE RITCHIE: WE’LL BE FRIENDS FOREVER

It could be a scene from Home and Away – Summer Bay favourites Kate Ritchie and Ray Meagher reunited and swapped jokes exclusively for New Idea this week. For 20 years the girl-next-door grew up alongside down-to-earth Ray – alias grouchy Alf Stewart – and they know each other so well they finish each other’s sentences. Five years ago, Ray was moved to tears when the dual Gold Logie winner spread her wings and departed from Summer Bay. But now Kate, aka Sally Fletcher, is back. ‘It was the talk of the studio for months before she arrived, and we would love to have her back for good,’ Ray says.

WINNERS & LOSERS STAR TOM WREN: WE’RE MARRIED… AT LAST

There’s no denying it’s been a rocky road to love for his character on Winners & Losers – and in real life, Tom Wren’s quest for his own happily-ever-after hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing either. Despite actually falling in love 11 years ago, it’s taken Tom and new wife Susan more than a decade to make things official. But for these ecstatic newlyweds, their road to wedded bliss has been worth every step. ‘We first met when I was studying in Montreal in 2002,’ says Tom, 33.

NEW IDEA FOOD: A FRENCH AFFAIR

This week, New Idea celebrates Bastille Day with a collection of French-inspired recipes – including roasted salmon with pea puree and fennel salad, celeriac and potato soup with pistou and lamb navarin. For a sweet treat, the New Idea Test Kitchen serves up a wicked chocolate tart and crepes Suzette from the king of French cooking himself, Manu Feildel. Plus, A Place To Call Home star Noni Hazlehurst shares her favourite recipes from her mum’s cherished cookbook, and we tell you the secrets to a delicious goat casserole.
