What’s in your shopping basket, Vanessa Amorosi?

What 10 items are in your shopping basket every week, Vanessa?
1. Yoghurt and porridge along with some fruit puree - a nice light breakfast meal to kick-start my day.
2. Lemon, ginger and honey. The three key ingredients to keeping my vocal chords warm and crisp when I need them to be.
3. Apples - as they say, ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’.
4. Oranges for my dose of Vitamin C.
5. Fish - a nice piece of salmon every week with salad keeps me feeling good.
6. Eggs - eggs are the best food. You can add them to a salad, have them for breakfast with soldiers, or as an omelette and they are high in protein.
7. Onion - you ALWAYS need an onion in your dish. It adds flavour and highlights the flavours of the other ingredients you’re cooking with.
8. Pumpkin - I just love it.
9. Cous cous and lettuce - to make salads for the week...
10. Snakes - a nice dose of sugar to get me through the week.

What are your favourite indulgent snacks or treats?
Lollies and chocolate - like any girl! While on set for my new video Gossip, over a two-day shoot we had the runner go to the shops around eight times… for a refresh of the goodies!

What favourite two or three ingredients you are cooking with at the moment?
As I have been in the studio quite a lot lately, I tend to eat at different times of the day and haven’t always had access to the best food. So lately I have been eating quick, easy meals like soups and salads and lots of vegetables and protein. The three ingredients I have been using are pumpkin for pumpkin soup and a salad with rocket and pine nuts, chicken added onto a salad or in a chicken and corn soup, and Moroccan spice to add a little spice and flavour to meals.

What’s your favourite fresh fruit and favourite vegetable?
Mandarins - they’re the best at this time of year and have lots of nice natural sugars. My favourite vegetables are broccoli and pumpkin.

Is there a favourite recipe you make each week?
Moroccan Chicken Cous Cous. Simple, easy and high in protein. Cook the cous cous with some onion and garlic then grill the chicken lightly with some spice. Add some rocket and a little lemon and that’s the dish. I also eat porridge with fresh blueberries and strawberries most mornings.

What meal can’t you live without?
I make a killer hot fudge chocolate thick-shake. It consists of warm creamy chocolate fudge, blended with rich vanilla ice-cream and topped with chocolate sauce. After a long day in the studio, on the road, or on shoot for a video this is the meal to pick me up and treat myself.

What item do you always have in the fridge and why?
My fridge is always stocked with lots of water and fresh fruit. It’s healthy and I can quickly grab it from the fridge as I leave for the day.
