What's in your shopping basket, Giaan Rooney?

What top 10 ingredients do you normally shop for?

Oat or Rice Milk. I am lactose intolerant and have been drinking these milk alternatives for over 10 years now.

Meredith’s Goat Cheese. I absolutely love cheese made with cow’s milk but it doesn’t really like me! Goat’s Cheese doesn’t seem to affect me as much and I love the taste.

Real Butter. I don’t eat a lot of butter so when I do have it I want the real good stuff!

Multigrain Wraps. If I am at home for lunch I usually just throw whatever I have in the fridge into a wrap, roll it up and put it in the sandwich press, delicious!

Avocados. I can’t get enough. On toast, crackers, wraps or in a salad, I use them wherever possible.

Free Range Eggs. I’m a big breakfast girl, so I love eggs in the morning. I mix it up either in an omelette, scrambled with herbs or plain boiled on toast.

Gourmet Strawberry or Rasberry Jam. This has been my favourite thing since I was a little girl, I used to overdose on jam on toast but now I try to save it for a treat.

Bottle of Laurent Perrier Champagne. I love having people over for dinner so I always keep a bottle of this beautiful Champagne cold as a nice welcome drink.

Asparagus. I never used to like this veggie but now I love it, perfect as a side dish or with an egg, mushrooms and some goat’s cheese on top for lunch or breakfast.

Dark chocolate covered Berries or Haigh’s dark peppermint frogs. I have a very specific sweet tooth: I need something after lunch or dinner. I love dark chocolate as I only need a small amount to change the palate, but it has to be good quality!

Ham off the bone. Perfect for a little bit of protein for breakfast, lunch or a snack.

Do you have any favourite snacks or treats?

My 2 favourite treats are thick, toasted bread with a generous slathering of real butter and a good raspberry jam, it always takes me back to my childhood and dark chocolate covered berries for when the sweet tooth needs placating, I have no will power when it comes to these!

What are your favourite ingredients to cook with at the moment?

I am loving aubergines (eggplant) as they have a nice flavour as a side dish or stuffed and served as the main meal. I am also always using canned tomatoes. In winter I love making casseroles, soups and gumbo!

Do you have any favourite fruit or vegetables?

I grew up in QLD so fresh fruit has always been a big part of my life, it is hard to pick just one but I can never say no to a fleshy mango, one is not enough! Followed closely by raspberries, blueberries, cherries and peaches. My favourite vegetable varies. I love asparagus, baby broccolini, and red onions but I don’t think I could live without mushrooms!
