Jessica Simpson is working on a new TV show

Jessica Simpson is working on a new television show based on her life.

The singer, 32, revealed she is working on a new television pilot for NBC based on real events in her personal life.

Simpson told the Hollywood Reporter:

"I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life – so between the real-life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing!"

Simpson is working with Fashion Star producer Electus in hopes that the show will be picked up.

Electus founder and chairman Ben Silverman called the singer, actress and mother a 'truly a modern-day Lucy with incredible comedic chops'.

Silverman said in a statement: "From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud."

If the show does get picked up, it will be a return to television for Simpson, who starred in MTV's reality series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica with then-husband Nick Lachey.
